Niklas know how to party. Zoe's working on it.
Niklas will tell Zoe the names of all of these buildings, even if he has to make them up.

  • 2011-09-03: So last weekend, Zoe made her first trip to Pennsylvania to visit my grandma. I think it was only her second time being outside Illinois; the first being a trip to the finest Mexican restaurant in all of Vincennes. It was definitely her first time on a plane, though and considering that, she did fairly well. I am a bit surprised she was able to walk when we got off of the plane seeing as how her legs should have been exhausted from all of the kicking of the seat in front of her. That wasn't so bad as Niklas (he of many, many plane rides) was sitting in front of her on the way there and some fool who opted to not switch seats with me bore the brunt of it on the return flight. "Give up my chance to sit in front of a toddler who for all I know will scream the entire flight? Lunacy!"

Both of the kids had a good time in PA. Niklas regaled my grandma and uncles with his tales of whatever he tells tales of and Zoe was the latest generation of Smith to run the loop from the living room to the kitchen to whatever you would call that room behind the living room and back into the living room. There was a bit of puking on Niklas's part at one point, but what's a vacation without a little puke?
    2011-09-04:
Niklas had his swimming lesson today. He's getting a lot better; he no longer sinks directly to the bottom upon entering the water, so there's that. He can put his head down and go ten or fifteen feet befor he runs out of breath and starts flailing about. Once he figures out how to put his face above the water, he'll be onto something.

We took the kids to mass today for the first time in a week, if you're concerned about us going to mass, or for the first time in a year as far as I can tell assuming "facts" are your thing. Anyway, Niklas behaved himself in awesome fashion, as one would expect of a young gentleman of principle. Zoe was not awful, so success! She did chat quite a bit until we gave her a plug. Then, she gave her evil "I know I'm not supposed to have this but I do and ha ha!" laugh and was quiet for a bit before recommencication (probably not a word, but it should be) of the chatting.

So today, Niklas had what would have been his first day back at school had he not gone all summer. Still, it's the beginning of a new school year.

Whilst Niklas got his learn on (today he learned about the letter A and things that begin with A), Zoe and I went to the gym. She apparently monopolized some toy food in the play room while I thought very hard about doing some exercises before standing around the sun deck for a while. Later, we all went the playground. Niklas climbed up a bunch a stuff and Zoe ran around laughing. Today was cool.
